Florida Native Plant meeting

Hello All,

Please join us Monday evening February 8th, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at the
Melbourne Library on Fee Ave. Free and open to the public.

The Conradina Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society will present
"Gimme Green"

Award-winning documentary film Gimme Green is a humorous look at
America's lawn obsession and its impact on our water supply, exploring
the social standards and problems created by our nation's $40 billion
turf industry. Fun, informative and thought-provoking -- you'll never
look at your lawn the same way. Produced and directed by independent
film-makers and University of Florida Documentary Institute graduates,
Isaac Brown and Eric Flagg.

Cammie Donaldson, Executive Director of the Association of Florida
Native Nurseries and Editor of The Guide for Real Florida Gardeners,
will provide additional discussion on the history of turf and
alternative landscape approaches including the use of Florida native
plants. Donaldson has been an active member of the Florida Native Plant
Society (Conradina Chapter) for over 20 years.

This is a great enjoyable film.

Hope to see you there,

Sharon

Nature Abounds Seeks Volunteers to Watch Wildlife

Watch the Wild, the newest program of Nature Abounds, seeks volunteers from across the United States to monitor the “wild” in their community. In as little as 10 minutes, volunteers can gather and report information that will help to analyze how our climate is changing in different regions of the United States, and how our ecosystems are reacting to the change.

Volunteers contribute information about wildlife, plants, trees, and weather. Watching the Wild can be done in a specific area such as a backyard or a local park, or volunteers can choose to observe and report on the route they commute to work or a trail that they hike regularly.

According to Nature Abounds President Melinda Hughes-Wert, “Seasonal changes are already impacting our ecosystems. We are already witnessing changes from wildlife migration and breeding patterns to decreased food supplies, as well as variations in temperature and water. These changes do not only affect wildlife, but they also affect trade, transportation, outdoor recreation, and tourism. We all need to be concerned with the changes happening across the globe. With Watch the Wild, we can observe what is taking place, and then adapt accordingly.”

Nature Abounds is a national non-profit, educating and empowering citizens to sustain their community through environmental stewardship. More information about Nature Abounds and Watch the Wild is available at www.natureabounds.org or by emailing info@natureabounds.org.
